Ian has been a telecommunications MD/ CEO for over 25 years working in areas as diverse as secure battlefield communications and cable television. He has been running companies providing voice telephone service to the public since 1995. “I’ve learned over the years that customers need a small number of things doing very well to keep them satisfied. Fair prices. Reliability. Accurate bills. And the ability to speak to a friendly helpful person who’ll sort out their problem if something goes wrong.”
Acquisition International magazine named Ian as London CEO of the Year 2017 after completing 3 acquisitions in 9 months
Ian was named as European Chief Executive of the Year 2016 by Corporate Vision magazine
Ian was awarded UK Chief Executive of the Year 2016 by TMT (Technology Media Telecoms) magazine.
In November 2016 Ian had the great honour of being appointed to the Cabinet Office SME Panel where he will be representing the Telecoms industry. His aim is to help the Government achieve their target of having 33% of all government spend with small and medium sized enterprises by 2020.
Ian is also Commercial Director of Innopsis. In this role Ian has been elected by his industry peers to lead negotiations with government bodies on issues that affect all of the association’s members. The vast bulk of all spend by the public sector goes to one of Innopsis’ members.

Updates from the SME Panel half on 16th May 2018
10th April 2018 was a big day for small businesses with a string of announcements from the Government aimed at helping SME’s win more business from the Public Sector and making it more difficult for large Business’s to support Government.

The Contracts Finder platform now has more than 22,000 registered suppliers, with almost two-thirds of them small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – a 53% increase since the beginning of this year. Around 200 suppliers sign up to use the platform every week.
NHS Digital’s HSCN Dynamic Purchasing System framework has gone live, and the government is keen to get smaller services providers signed up
I represent Innopsis and the Telecoms industry on the Cabinet Office SME Panel. The work of the panel is split into working groups and I chair the Contracts Finder Working Group. In this article I want to share with you some of the huge progress we are making.
We are now delighted to be able to publish the first statistics and on every item measured we can see considerable growth in usage in the first 4 months of this financial year (April to July 2017).
SME share of Government spending rose to 26.1% by 2015, or £12.1bn, and is targeted at 33% by 2020, creating substantial new opportunities for smaller telecoms and IT providers at the expense of companies such as BT, Vodafone and systems integrators.
Funding for the next round of developments of the Contracts Finder website was approved in May 2017.
We now have management information that shows a steady rise in usage by both buyers and suppliers over the last year.
Brexit offers a rare opportunity in public policy – the opportunity to critically review how government works and rethink it. Innopsis’ engagement with the public sector gives its members the ability to help shape the policy and make it easier to do business.
