Central Government

As of 2019, there are around 120 government ministers supported by 560,000 Civil servants and other staff working in the 25 ministerial departments and their executive agencies. There are also an additional 20 non-ministerial departments with a range of further responsibilities.

Local Government

England has been subdivided into nine regions. Combined authorities were introduced in England outside Greater London to cover areas larger than the existing local authorities but smaller than the regions. Combined authorities allow a group of local authorities to pool appropriate responsibility.

 

Health

Health care is a devolved matter, with England, Northern Ireland, Scotlandand Wales each having their own systems of publicly funded healthcare, funded by and accountable to separate governments and parliaments, together with smaller private sector and voluntary provision.
